Originally living in Oxfordshire Chris studied at Berkshire College of Art, Reading in the mid eighties and holds a BA (Hons) degree in History. He is an artist and painter based in the coastal countryside of North Devon near Woolacombe Bay. He paints with oils, using canvas or board as his painting surfaces.

Chris conceptualises each painting as a journey, from the germination of an idea, to discovering the perfect subject. Working on the development and fulfilment of meaning throughout his compositions, each painting undergoes its own personal passage. Perhaps his notion of ‘journey’ encapsulates Chris’s own journey in life.

‘I love to paint subjects that allow the viewer to get involved, to imagine the space, to fill in the gaps of action and participation, and even to try and guess what might be behind a sand dune, a boat, or a building, that isn’t discernible from the creation on canvas. I am inspired by the outdoors, by music, by history, and by the great romantics of our past.’

The Prints....

I have been inspired to create my print collections simply because collectors and clients alike have asked for them.

Often the Original pieces are sold but the image itself might resonate with someone that wants it on their wall. What can I do when the original is sold? I could paint one particular place fifty times over and no two pieces will ever be the same. From colour to atmosphere to light; everything changes in each new composition.

That is why I decided to begin recording my original works for prints. This means that prints can be made available in varying sizes, formats and prices that might suit a certain niche in the home, make a great gift, or be a constant reminder of a scene or view that can sit on the kitchen worktop or hang on the office wall.

The details.....

The prints are available in A5, A4 and A3 sizes. The sizes are indicated along side each print in the 'Shop'.

A5 and A4 size prints are available Framed and Unframed. The frames are moulded MDF and have Acrylic Perspex 'glass' so as to avoid breakages in transit.

All A3 prints are Unframed as the size begins to make shipping costs prohibitive. A3 prints are delivered rolled in 'hard cardboard' tubes, ready for you to frame in your choice of mount and frame at your local framers.

Prints are sent via insured carriage. and will arrive within 14 days of order.

Each print has printed area measurements included in the 'Shop' and each print has artist Title and Signature below it.

Just right....

Choosing your prints is the easy part. Deciding where to hang them can sometimes be more of a challenge.

Imagine you have chosen a print that is mostly on the blue 'spectrum' and you decide to hang that on a yellow wall. For some that may be a clash, for others; it's exactly the feel they are after.

Colour choices are always personal. To get those colours to nestle comfortably into the environment of choice, I always advise a client to consider the 'values' contained in a chosen print because that can often be more of a guide.

In the framed print of HMS Victory opposite, I have chosen to match the 'values' of the greys and darks with the sofa. The values of yellow and gold are subtly echoed in the flowers on the table and even in the wooden floor.

The colours aren't necessarily the same but the 'values' are very similar.

If you consider the values in the piece you choose, as well as the overall hues, you won't go far wrong.
